CLOSER TO THE TRUTH COMMUNITIES [ CHICAGO ]
Chicago is an incredibly segregated city, so we don’t often get to know one another, to share our stories. We will never be able to end racism if we can’t get people to see themselves in one another. Closer to the Truth is not just the title of a powerful film, it is a call to action. In other words, we have to be willing to remove the artifice, destroy the safety nets and get out of our comfort zones so that we can move our society closer to the truth, heal our wounds and transform our nation.

The Jane Addams Hull House Association, through its Center for Civil Society, sponsors an ongoing dialogue project, the Chicago Dinners, to discuss different issues of interest to the larger Chicago community. The objective for the series is to create a platform for community expression and advocacy around issues of racism and classism in society. In January 2010 they organized a reconciliation-themed dinner series and featured Greensboro: Closer to the Truth to help spark the conversations necessary to lead to strategies and concrete actions needed to address these ongoing concerns. Ultimately the film helped to bring exposure to the idea of reconciliation in Chicago and to explore what it means to have conversations about race in a post-Obama world.
